GRAATARSLAGJET

Four new works inspired by an old Norwegian fiddle tune with the same name, and surrounded by a fascinating but tragic myth. Music composed for Song Circus and Hardanger fiddle master Britt Pernille Frøholm. Composed by four of the most intriguing Norwegian composers of today; Tyler Futrell, Therese Birkelund Ulvo, Nils Henrik Asheim and Ruben Sverre Gjertsen.

A wedding procession was on their way from church across the ice on a deep fjord in Western Norway (Ørdalsvatnet) when the ice burst, and the whole trail went down and drowned. Alone in the water surface floated the fiddle, and all was quiet except for the fiddle who was playing the mournful Graatarslagjet melody.

Graatarslagjet can both be performed as an acoustic concert, and a scenic installation created by the Norwegian artist Tove Kommedal.«
